Reiki (ray-key) is an ancient healing method from Japan, meaning “Universal Life Energy”.
The Reiki practitioner is acting as a channel for this “Universal Life Energy” and by placing her/his hands on the client’s fully-clothed body, this pure healing energy flows through the practitioner and into the client’s body.
The client may feel a tingling sensation, heat, cold, unusual heaviness or sometimes no sensation at all. A full Reiki treatment takes about 60 minutes.
Reiki brings deep relaxation, activates and strengthens the immune system, eases pain, removes energy blockages, accelerates healing process of bones and wounds and much more.
Reiki also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
Animals also react positively when given Reiki and enjoy a Reiki Session as much as human beings! A Reiki treatment for an animal will usually take less time.

How to learn Reiki
Reiki is taught by a Reiki Master who is trained in this ancient tradition.
In a Reiki I course, the Reiki master teaches the different basic hand positions for self treatment and treatment of others; the application of Reiki and most important the Master will attune the student to the precious Reiki energy, which will then become available to the student.
After the attunement, the student will be able to share Reiki with family members or friends.
A Reiki II course can be taken by students who have already been attuned to Reiki I.
The students will receive another attunement, which increases the strength of the Reiki energy. This involves the learning of the sounds and symbols, which are used in advanced Reiki work and in distant healing.
In a Reiki III course the participant receives third-level empowerment and the ‘ final symbol’. It is taught mainly for personal growth. A person who has completed the third level is able to give attunements and teach Reiki themselves.
History of Reiki
Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese educator, rediscovered Reiki in the late 1800s.
He began with an extensive study of the healing phenomena of history’s greatest spiritual leaders. He discovered ancient sounds and symbols that are linked directly to the human body and nervous system which activate the universal life energy for healing.
Usui then underwent a metaphysical experience and became empowered to use these sounds and symbols to heal. He called this form of healing Reiki and taught it throughout Japan until his death around 1893.
The tradition was passed through several grandmasters of Reiki such as Dr. Chujiro Hyashi, Hawayo Takata, and Phyllis Lei Furumoto.
Reiki was introduced to the Western world in the mid-1970s. Since then its use has spread dramatically worldwide.
